Now Protected!
The Little Traverse Conservancy protected its 25,000th acre of land in 2005, establishing a conservation milestone that stands as a wonderful tribute to the foresight of our founders, the support of our members, the leadership of our Board of Trustees, and the effectiveness of our staff. As we celebrate this achievement, it seems appropriate to reflect on the mission of the Conservancy and our approach to land protection. While this quarterly newsletter routinely reports the results of our conservation efforts, perhaps it’s time to dwell for a bit on the process, and even the philosophy, of our land conservation work.

New Preserve Provides Educational Opportunities in Cheboygan area
A new 37-acre nature preserve located just outside the Cheboygan city limits is now available for a multitude of environmental education opportunities. This past spring, the Conservancy purchased the undeveloped property from Dawn Hambly, who sold it at a bargain sale to ensure it would remain undeveloped.

Goodhart Farms Preserve
Outdoor Recreation Opportunities Continue to Improve
Three years ago, Ed and Maureen Mayne made the single largest donation ever received by Little Traverse Conservancy when they donated their Goodhart Farms property for protection as a nature preserve. At that time, the donation included the value of farm equipment as well as the proceeds made from the future sale of a homestead and related buildings associated with the farm.
